My favourite character is Pippin (and this was decided
before the movies). When I was first reading the books, I was continually struck by many of the things Pippin said and did. He's loyal to his friends, brave, and more intelligent than people give him credit for.
Also, toward the beginning of Fellowship, I continually thought this about him: "Whoa, that's exactly what I would have done/said in that situation!" 'Twas very lofty.
Another favourite is Shelob. Just because I like spiders.
