Just for the sake of clarity, my complaint all along in this thread has been the lack of a collaborative option. Intention of the author is only part of the equation as far as I'm concerned.

I'd hate to limit myself to that awkward sounding definition. All the approaches you suggest, and more, are part of my own reading experience. That Gordian knot will not be sliced with such a blunt and clumsy instrument as this poll.
