Lots of people, not including me, read the books
after the movie. It was a much bigger production and it caused a HUGE following because it got so much more publicity than the old cartoon "The Hobbit" or the cartoon for the LotR series. Many of my friends actually read it after the movie came out, and they would always complain to me about how many things were left out.
But I for one loved it before the movie.
