My mother, as I said, who was a reliable source of information ... unlike my sister who, one October, when I was about 6 told me the world was going to end in February ....
Homely is positive here but she told me that homey was the way to go..the other sort of homey would have been beyond her ken....
She also told me to refer to hitting practice balls rather than knocking up when talking about warming up for tennis.....
