When it goes up, they'll find it will be a real asset to the area. Tolkien fans will make a special trip just to see it with the knock on effect of additional business for local shops and cafes/pubs. Plus the local kids will absolutely love it and I remember reading something about the positive effects of public art on house prices - once they see
that effect they will be quite happy to have the statue.
Art and Nature go together very well, and if anyone's in doubt they only need to go to the fabulous Yorkshire Sculpture Park...
