Day3

The third day seemed to inflame the emotions in the Shire. It was not sure whether it was the setback of losing a Sackville-Baggins (Sackville-Baggins or not but they were honourable and noteworthy hobbits anyway) or the ecxitement from last evening’s succesful lynching but the hobbits were really stirred and buzzing this Day.

First it looked like every finger pointed towards the old Harrybelly. This was the third Day indeed the fingers had pointed his way. But the old Morm had survived already two Days over his respectable years and he meant to survive this one as well. Especially Menel Furryface was on him in the morning hours.

But all the fuzz around the old Harrybelly was redirected as Sally Shortbrush stood up from the table of the youngsters and started running rampant. After a lot of talk most of the hobbits just didn’t understand the point of, she started to speak of a place called "Walmart" where she had visited that very same Day. At that point the other hobbits finally declared her insane. The question remained whether she was a wolf trying to act like one or whether the experiences of the last Days had just been too much for her.

So heated was the discussion indeed that the young Might of Greenholm actually proposed a double lynch this Day. It was the table of the elders that immediately turned that possibility down. A hobbit killing a hobbit was an issue still and with a double lynch the chances of killing one of their own were just too big. “The youngsters should hold their horses”, they said in concerto even if a few of them entertained the possibility of orchestrating a trial for it just to see how others would react to it.

That was except Lommy Baggins who was making a grand-theory of wolves with a speech that lasted from the dinner to the late-evening snack and ended with a reiteration of the idea of double-lynching both Sally and Morm.

"You Bagginses have always been a bit too daring to my taste", the Shrewthwacker said decidedly.

After a tight discussion and close voting it seemed that the old Harrybelly was leading comfortably.

"I'd rather vote for this young Shortbrush after all... and its better to be wrong once than wrong twice" called the Shrewthwacker

"Let's do something for we can't afford a double lynch!" Agan Sackville-Baggins said.

"We'll go your way then... " Lommy Baggins agreed.

And Sally passed the old Harrybelly in the votes.

"Lynch me if you feel like it but pay attention to how this came about", exclaimed Sally Shortbrush.

"Don't you even try Miss..." said Farael Twofoot and took a few steps towards the Shortbrush wit a raised candlestick in her hand.

"You'll die before the sun has set", Fea Briarpatch added swinging a small knife.

"We'll not double-kill anyone toDay and you're the one to go" said Lommy Baggins tucking up his sleeves.

"We need to get one anyway, there's no turning back now!" called Agan Sackville-Baggins. "Here's for my husband!" she cried and hammered a fork into her eye.

While Sally was still wailing from pain Kuru brought a table to bear and rammed it right over the Shortbrush.

But one hobbit had been sitting in the shades all the evening and now he stood up from the table of the youngsters.

"My vote is still pending and I will stick to my idea of a double lynch. So let the fiendish Harrybelly die too!" It was the Might of Greenholm whom everyone had kind of forgotten.

A loud murmur which soon changed into a restless stir went through the Green Dragon - or what was left of it.

Shasta of the River and Menel Furryface had to wake old Harrybelly from his dreams.

"You're dead as well gaffer...", Volo Proudfoot whispered to his ear.

"What! Lynched? Because of being suspicious or defensive? Now c'mon you youngsters... and by that I mean all of you except Fea and Kuru... I'm the ranger of the Shire and you should do well to keep away from me!"

"Oh you old crow! You don't fool me!" The Might bellowed and ran his tiny sword he had been carrying with him through Morm's stomach.

The blood was pouring and old Morm sat gasping for breath.

"Why don't you believe what I say..." he muttered and then fell down from the chair.

"Noooo!" cried Brinn Burrows.
