i must stick up for my dwarven ancestry and say dwarves had special powers too! they were resistant to the powers of the Dwarven Rings inasmuch as they didn't get corrupted, just super-greedy, and they built powerful fortresses that were near-insurmountable to assault from without. with moria, it was assault from within that killed them.
