I wrote point blank that one of the textbooks said the two guys, the other textbook said the other guy, and I gave the dates for all three of them.
Following that, I assign cramming for an exam: I just crash memorized about forty slides (artist, title, date) that all look the same (thanks Willem de Kooning, Hans Hoffman, and Arshile Gorky) so I could go take a fifteen minute slide identification test that was the second part of my unfortunately HUGE midterm.
And I assign when your mind goes totally blank and instead of Motherwell you're kind of like... Mapplethorpe... Mothership... Matheson... Muh---
Sigh. I hate tests based on gross memorization. It's not like I'm going to remember any of it tomorrow anyway.
