I adored Gollum when my dad first read The Hobbit to me. I still liked Gollum in LotR until he tried to kill Frodo. Smeagol had been growing on me for a while anyway. So when he died I can't say I was too upset but I did cry over the little bit of goodness left in him, the tad bit of his foremer self, Smeagol. I've kinda seperated Smeagol and Gollum, they aren't the same person/hobbit like creature/thing in my eyes.
