I'm satisfied with my reading. My thought is that Eodwine will not know what has been going on, and so I don't want to know too well either. That would make it come off more realistic. Of course, I know enough anyway, for example that Athanar has been having a lot of difficulty establishing his authority in spite of King Eomer's writ of proclamation because of Scarburgians' loyalty to a certain previous eorl.
