I can't see them canceling the show after season 3 because it has been one of their most watched shows ever, but you never know, especially considering how expensive it has been to make. Cancellation would not bode well for the future of Tolkien adaptations. War of the Rohirrim was not exactly well-received, and expectations are also low for The Hunt for Gollum. The show being canceled could mean no more Tolkien stories on screen for many years to come.
