This whole "restrictions of power" thing is too convenient of an argument. What powers were the Istari allowed to display? Just using their staffs for lightbulbs, conjuring a bit of fire here and there, opening doors and such? I still maintain that the so-called "restrictions" were more of an ethical/moral nature.
