Túrin's father was Húrin Thalion. At the Nirnaeth Arnoediad he and his warriors fought a rearguard action that allowed Turgon to escape the field. Húrin was defeated by weight of numbers, captured and taken to Morgoth, whom he defied.
Many years later, having been forced to watch the destruction of his family, he was released to wander Beleriand. Unwittingly he gave away the rough location of Gondolin when he journeyed there to reprove Turgon for his failure to protect his family, thus playing into his old enemy's hands. During his later wanderings he also encountered and killed Mîm the petty dwarf in the ruins of Nargothrond, thus avenging the betrayal of Bar-en-Danwedh to the Orcs.
However, 'Son of Ill-Fate' doesn't refer to Túrin's real parentage, but is intended to conceal it. Therefore Úmarth is nobody at all.
