I still haven't seen either movie, but a particular line in the TORN article seems to say it all.

Spot on. And my opposition to not only
TH, but the
LOTR films over ten years ago was founded upon that nugget of knowledge. I saw that any cinematic treatment of the films would be very hard pressed to avoid pandering to Hollywood cliches that would blot out whatever of Tolkien had the good fortune to be left in.
