Spake the black serpent, perhaps, or one of his southron kin as they watched Theoden King -- in the van -- leading the Rohirrim on the Pelennor. If it was the black serpent, he was wholly mistaken. Or do his closing lines suggest a willigness to die in battle, sacrificing himself to slay the white horse?
