Perethil, I too once thought that references such as this indicated a somewhat dubious attitude towards race on Tolkien's part. But, taking into account the time in which, and the standpoint from which, Tolkien was writing, then I cannot but conclude that there is in fact nothing sinister to be read into them. I set out my own views in this regard

Of course, that will not stop these nutters believing that Tolkien's writings are in accordance with their deranged beliefs. Fortunately, however, they are in the minority (and, I fervently hope) will remain so.
