Concerning justification: no, Durelin, of course you're not justified. No one could possibly be justified unless they had read the Hobbit before they could walk, have read LotR religiously at least once a year since then, and can quote HoME at the drop of the hat.
You should probably own original 1950's copies of the books, as well.
