After eating his breakfast, Béowulf rearmed himself and mounted Léod and started to ride down Edoras. He was delayed from going out the gate, however, when a dwarf suddenly cut in front of Léod.
. . .
Both rider and dwarf went out the gates and turned east after passing by the barrows and crossing the Snowbourne Bridge, following the path of the Snowbourne. The Rider rode while the dwarf ran.
