Well then when Feanor burned the stolen ships at Losgar, he assembled his sons on the shore and only six of them. Ambarussa told him that Ambarto had slept on his ship. Feanor realised that that ship he had burned first and they speak of how Umbarto is a fitting name. Then, an end note says that Ambarussa's name became Amros in Sindarin (not Amrod, as recorded in The Silmarillion). So..wherever The Silmarillion speaks of Amrod and Amras after the burning at Losgar, then one has to realise that only Amros was present.
So.. he was burned to death by Feanor?
