Wouldn't the plusses of crossbows cited above make
them advantageous also, not just for dwarves and
orcs, but also for the comparatively advanced
technology of Gondor? Useful in defending cities and also
in street fighting if , say, old Grond poked an opening
into Minas Tirith.
