You've mentioned it a couple times now, but I see it differently. Beleg is like the step-dad who doesn't want to force his relationship with his grown step-son, so he basically acts like a caring father but would not enforce obedience or obligation. Turin is like the orphan who doesn't realize that his senior buddy is his step-dad, so he continues to treat him like a buddy but himself as the superior. I just don't see the relationship the way you describe - it seems so wrong given that I see Beleg as a father-figure...
