The Eye

Calad looked up, recognizing the voice, and glared at the faerie. He gazed dreamily at the window, watching the sun rise and the stars fade away. It was now early morning, and a few birds twittered gaily in their perches. He could also hear singing voices, and squirmed about uncomfortably in his heavy chains and ropes. Soon Kalia and Thengise left, Thengise leaving last. More voices could be heard at the door, and soon Taralquamegil walked in again.

The healer surveyed the room, also noting how Calad was tied up. Before entering, the guards had told him of what had happened that night, and that made Taralquamegil more determined to heal him. He drifted over and sat next to Calad on the bed. Calad looked up angrily at him. Taralquamegil spoke, breaking the silence. "Good-morn, my friend." He continued. "The guards had told me of the incident last night. Why did you do that?" Knowing that Calad could not speak with the gag on, he reached towards Calad's head, carefully ungagging him.

Calad said nothing, and licked his lips, glad that the gag was off. Taralquamegil said, "Silence? Is that it?"
