It is no good if the enemy can sit on a map and say: 'They were there but they must go there, so we'll just block the way.' Taht would have ended up in a rather confused battle which we do not want.It is all aobut forward bases, friend. What supports that there were long raids for months is that Faramir uses the words: "Remember why it was I who was sent to Ithilen, and not Boromir, father."
