Esty, I'm deleting my former save, and have posted a half-baked post that has got you to the bottom of the tunnel.
Since I was posting at the same time you were posting your save, if it screws up your save, I can delete the half of the post that concerns Merisuwyniel.
The problem seems to have fixed itself, in the meantime.
