Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clark. Ignore most of the reviews, because it's nothing like any of the books the reviewers compare it to, but if you are interested the website is
here. Beware though, it's not one you can read in bed because you'll end up breaking your arms, and if you want a first edition, I think they are about to go ona second print run already!
