But in that case it looks like your version must have "any one" as one word, and "wish" for "hope". Or is this a difference between editions of LotR? (I'm going by the 1991 Harper Collins edition).
*blushes* I didn't quote from memory but I did fill in the esses from memory and substited wish for hope. I was working from the Kindle edition as nearly all my books are still in store (hoping to exchange any day, please Eru). In that anyone is one word. It is the fiftieth anniversary edition that attempted to has attempted to correct errors that crept in typesetting and digitalisation and sometimes for consistency. There is a lengthy note on it all. So half my error half my edition.
