Re: the nickname
Gilthalion is an elvish name that was my attempt made in ancient times, before many of you were born, to translate my Christian name "Robert."
Robert = "shining fame"
Way back about 20 years ago, there were no internet references handy, nor much else! I chose "thalion" for strong/brave/stalwart and "gil" for star. That was as close as I could come.
"Thaliongil" for Brave/Strong Star didn't sound right.
"Gilthalion" sounded better to my ears, and that was that.
Oddly enough, I am more like a hobbit than an elf, but I still liked the way it sounded, so when I discovered these Tolkien Discussion Boards, I started using the name anyway!
