IMHO ,
CRRT should have gone ahead and synthesized all the non-conflictingdetails from unfinished/lost tales and co. into the silmarillion framework and published it. He had to do that on a small scale w/ the silm. anyway. I vaguly recall him saying something to that effect in on of the HoME intro's .
But I can understand his reluctance to take it on -although it would have been an easier job than this giant series.
