Now back to the original topic of the thread: I think it can be inferred that there were
female orcs simply because A) They somehow inexplicably multiplied! & B) It can be assumed that Melkor corrupted both male and female Elves (or Men?), & I doubt even he had the power to change the sexes of his corruptions &/or make impotence a hereditary trait.
