Don't think Tolkien wrote the whole thing - its not in any of the relevant volumes of the History, as far as I remember.
Tolkien did that a lot - part of the literary effect - saying 'this is part of the lay of such & such', or referring to works written by earlier peoples(mostly Elves), which he never actually composed, or actually never intended to write, or only started to write. Anyway, pretty much everything Tolkien wrote on Middle Earth has been published, so if its not in LotR, Hobbit, Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, Adventures of Tom Bombadil, or the 12 volumes of the History, it means he (almost) definitely didn't write it. |
