The Eye Sauron

Who is Sauron? I mean I know who he is but did he have like another name and somehow become evil and change he name.(I'm not quite sure if that made sense.) Where did he come from? Has he always been evil? Is he a spirit, man, evil elf, evil dwarf? This has been bothering me for awhile, so I decided to ask. Sorry of it seem stupid.

Sauron is one of the spirits created by Eru Iluvitar (God) before the begining of time. He is a Maia, the same kind of being as Gandalf. After the world was made, Sauron joined Melkor Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, and became his Second-in-Command.

You can read all about it in the Silmarillion.

yes sauron had another name. He was called gorthaur in sandarin in the first age and Annatar during the second age when he forged the one ring

Yes, The Silmarillion is a good way to find out more about Sauron. And don't be afraid of asking. The people here can help with just about everything LotR related. There is no such thing as stupid questions, only stupid answers.
