Bio about the characters
Can you all tell something about the charactes of LOTR, it has been a real long time I read the books, but I don't have much time to read them again. Just pick a character and tell about that character everything you know

Finwe-89, since it looks like you are asking about the book characters rather than the film characters (and some are quite different), I am moving this to Novice & Newcomers.

I will be helpful and get you the scoop of some of the characters here, quickly though.
Gimli- Attended Council of Elrond (with his father Gloin). Of course you are familiar with his travelling in the Fellowship. After the destruction of the Ring, Gimli starts a dwarf colony in the Glittering Caves (Aglarond), the caves you see in Helm's Deep. Then heads off to Valinor with Legolas. PJ mistook Dwarves, for being slow, dragging behind runners, but actually they were quite endurant. About as endurant as orcs. Aragorn- Before meeting the Hobbits, Aragorn did a lot, and his background explains why Denethor doesn't like him too much. At 2 years old Aragorn's father (Arathorn) dies, and his mother Gilraen gives him to Elrond, to watch, and his whole ancestry about being King is concealed. Gilraen basically disappears and dies later on. At 20 years old, Elrond tells Aragorn of his "destiny," and gives him the shards of Narsil. A few years later, Aragorn meets Gandalf, as well as Arwen. Then for about 10 years, Aragorn goes and serves under the current King of Rohan (Thengel), and Steward of Gondor, (Ecthelion, Denethor's pa). He is given the alias name "Thorongil" to hide his ancestry again. Denethor feared that his father would step down to Thorongil, and shortly after his fathers death starts viewing the palantir, fearing that Thorongil would try to claim the throne. Aragorn doesn't claim the throne, he leaves, and goes to Lorien, where he meets Arwen again. Then 9 years before Frodo leaves the Shire, Aragorn helps Gandalf search for Gollum (but at this time was captured by Sauron). Gollum is released one year before Frodo leaves The Shire (3018), and that's when Aragorn catches him in the Dead Marshes, and hands him over to the Mirkwood Elves. That is a summary of what Aragorn did before we meet him in Bree, and holds importance to why Denethor feared him, the friendship between him and Gandalf, him and Arwen, and many more.... If you want a very complete synopsis of all the characters, songs, tales, places and much more go to www.glyphweb.com/arda aka The Encyclopedia of Arda. It is completely chock-full of information about most anything you could ever want to know about the Hobbit, the Lord of the rings and the silmarillion.
Heres my summary of Frodo before the quest to destroy the ring. Frodo was born on September, 22 2968 of the third age, to Drogo and Primula Baggins. When he was a young hobbit, his parents were "drownded" in a boating accident. He lived with the Bucklanders, until his uncle Bilbo adopted him when he was in his tweens (his twenties, which is like the teenage years to us humans). Bilbo and Frodo share the same birthday, so when Bilbo was turning 111 Frodo was celebrating his coming of age, at age 33. This is the party as seen in the movie. Where Bilbo disappears and leaves to go stay with the elves in Rivendell and leaves Frodo to inherit Bag End. He also leaves the ring to Frodo. I think it's 17 years later that Gandalf returns to Bag-End and tells Frodo the truth behind the ring. Frodo makes up his mind to leave the Shire and sells Bag-End to the Sackville-Bagginses. He tells them he's moving to a house in Crickhollow, but he actually starts his journey of leaving the Shire. Merry, Pippin, Sam and Fatty bolger are all in on his plan to leave the Shire. Fatty and Merry are the ones who make all the arrangements, I think. I don't remember exactly what happens after he leaves hobbiton so I'll leave someone else to cover that. Another point to add to the Aragorn backstory: By the time of the War of the Ring, he didn't like being a Ranger anymore. He fulfills the task dutifully, but I always get the impression that he doesn't like being "Strider," because he always refers to himself in the third person when he's being Strider, and (although he's generally a patient man) as Strider, he gets very brief with the innkeeper Butterbur.
