Hi - can somebody either help me out with an answer, or point me in the right direction for where to find out? I am trying to read the Silmarillion, and am puzzled by the map. How does the map of Beleriand fit into/onto the rest of Middle Earth? Am I missing something obvious, are they two totally separate places, or are they joined together somehow? In other words, where is the Silmarillion map in relation to the LoTR maps?
Thanks!

The Silmarillion map (Beleriand) was originally the land to the north and west of the Middle-earth map in the Lord of the Rings. The Blue Mountains (Ered Luin) in the east of the map of Beleriand are the same Blue Mountains that are in the furthermost west of the Middle-earth map. You'll have to finish the Silmarillion if you want to find out what happened to Beleriand.

Thanks obloquy. I always like to get my bearings before I get going on a story I take it something happened to Beleriand, as there is only sea to the west of the Blue Mountains in the later ME map... I shall have to read on. It's quite tough going at the moment though, I'm afraid.

Stay with it man! Beleriand would have been west of the blue Mountains on the Lord of the Rings map. The Silmarillion deals with Middle Earth in the Firsat Age, wheras the Lord of the Rings deals with Middle Earth in the latter days of the Third Age.
