Yuletide greetings
I am very sorry to have neglected this place. Life has been rather difficult this year for various reasons but I am hoping to have a better time and be here more in the New Year. I am not complaining - I was lucky enough to survive sepsis at the end of October so I am fortunate to still be here thanks to modern medicine and the grace of the Valar. Good wishes to all whatever you are celebrating. Peace Health Happiness

Thankful you have returned to good health, Mithalwen.
I hope all denizens of the Downs gave a rousing good send off to the Fellowship yesterday and can look forward, no matter the challenges and struggles that await, and the threat of increasing snowstorms on Caradhras, to successful journeys in the new year ahead.

WOW! Sepsis is still quite serious even with modern medicine, especially with some weird backsliding on science in one formerly scientifically forward-thinking country.
Glad you weathered it and came through and are again healthy! Here's to 2026 coming. I'm more than happy to see 2025 in the rear view mirror. |

It certainly is. I fell trying to put myself to bed with what I assumed was the flu and rang 999 as not strong enough to get myself up. My leg had been sore but I hadn’t thought much of it -paramedic took one look declared it looked like sepsis and next thing was blue lighted to hospital and found myself in ICU via resus! I needed two units of blood and the most powerful antibiotics going. Mercifully prompt action meant I was on a regular ward two days later and home a week later. I live alone so if I had managed to get too bed I may well have not woken up. So although I live on an island backwater I got fantastic treatment and am here to tell the tale. Hugely grateful to the medics and my unknown blood donors xxx
