Houghton Mifflin is releasing a 2nd Edition of the Silmarillion this month in both hardcover and paperback format. According to Barnes & Noble: "This new edition includes textual corrections and, by way of introduction, a letter written by Tolkien that details his conceptions of the earliest Age." Is this a genuine, new edition, or just a new cover on the Naismith illustrated version? If it is a new edition, any idea on those "textual corrections"? It seems to have 7 more pages than the edition I own. Are those blank pages in the back, or could it possibly address Orodreth's parentage of Gil-galad and other hot topics? I hope it actually has some substantive changes, just to stir the pot some more. Think of the threat to everyone's personal "canon" if there actually are ANY changes.Think of the new points to discuss and challange. I can't wait.
