I agree, and I think that some characters, such as Gandalf, Saruman, Theoden and Samwise were superbly casted. The impression I get here is that most people are complaining about the actors themselves because they don't like them rather than the actual acting and casting.

Frodo was a bit too young, perhaps, but overall Elijah Wood a good job. Anyway, 50something is quite young for a hobbit, is it not?

After reading the books many times the only 'change' I'd like would probably be Merry, who I'd imagine to be more 'different', somehow, from the other hobbits, being from Buckland and all.
Also, I thought the Elves were a bit too 'plasticy'. I've always thought of Elves as having an 'Elvish' accent when speaking in the Common Tongue, but I might be wrong.
