Silmaril Words in words

In this game, you are given a sentence, in which a word is hidden.
e.g.
A rag ornament can turn out to be great.
A rag ornament can turn out to be great.

See? The hidden word is Aragorn.
Also, the sentence preferably should give a clue (the example wasn't that great, but a rag ornament is kinda shabby, but then becomes great (Aragorn analogy). You know what I mean.)

OK, First Sentence:

To wake a sleeping horse, poke it with a rod.

That was easy.
