Hey Lanniae, when you get that Gimli Fan Club off the ground, send me an application. Why -- well, 'cause Dwarves are just plain cool, and they played Gim' in the movie far too much like i've always GMed my Dwarves (Legolas may be the prettiest, but I've got the spiffy helmet!) that being short Viking-motif-sporting butt-kickers!
(probably also 'cause Legolas is pouting back there in the number 3 spot (after being overborne & football-passed back there by Boromir in a surprise upset) and Gimli is likely having fun taunting the poor Elf from his newly claimed perch of #2. The vision of thumbs shoved in ears and stubby fingers wiggling on both sides of bushy beard with wagging tongue and 'nyaah-nyaah' is too hilarious to keep a deadpan expression, hoo hoo hah hah mua ha ha ha ha. i have a nasty feeling that that wily Elf is planning something -- you know how long they can nurse a grudge) Forever heft those axes on high, saxony (BTB i swiped the Bor' pic. from your sidebar & to my delight it was big enough to wallpaper my desktop. Well, there goes MY productivity... s.t.)

Dwarves?! I love dwarves! They're so cool! And what do you mean nobody likes Gimli? Gimli's hot! He has a beard, and that makes him hot. Period.
![]() ![]() So, next time you find yourself thinking that no one loves dwarves, just think of your little friend Siri, here on the 'Downs. ~*Siri*~

Oh, huzzah! A Dwarf thread. Again, Huzzah! Hail and well met ye dwarf-lovers.
I am indeed a supporter of Gimli and all his relative dwarfishness. I come, but to point out an extremity which, I believe, has never been given to dwarven credit. An offhand remark in the movie, another addition to movie-Gimli's comic aura, was generally: Our beloved dwarf making a remark to Eowyn about Dwarven reproduction and lack of females. This may have been a strangely accurate point. I put it to you, fellow dwarf-lovers, that during the making of the dwarves, there were 7 dwarves laid down in Arda's many subterranean empires, 13 dwarves overall. Explicitly, Illuvatar himself "commanded Aule to lay the fathers of the Dwarves severally in deep places, each with his mate, save Durin the eldest who had none." (Tolkein Letter #212). This means that there were 6 females, since there were seven males. So Durin had no mate. How exactly did the descendants of Durin become...well, the descendants of Durin? Again, I put to you my theory. Perhaps, either the dwarves are even more learned in the magicks of the world than Olorin himself, making dwarves, or they have perfected the art of pulling dwarves from the ground like rabbits! Either way, we should all bow our unworthy heads to the incredible magic/genius/scientific knowledge accumulation/social skills of the mighty Durin and all dwarves.

Well, actually....
...if you rule out the Nazgirls ("OMG!!!1! ORLI IS SOOOO HOTT!!!1!!11") and count those who actually like the story for the story, not Orlando, the Gimli fans outweigh the Legolas fans 12:1. At least at my college anyways...
J R-D's awesome though! He talked to us at the prem, and Hwin was putting on fake accents just to make him keep talking. He has such an amazing voice *sighs* Besides, OB looks like he's never seen food in his life! *holds up sign stating how to make a sandwich*

It is true that dwarves are not present much in the lord of the rings. I think that this is because of the active roles that they had in the hobbit where you really didn't meet any elves. However dwarves are awsome, especailly Gimli. He is the solem dependable made of rock member of the fellowship. He is always there to chop some orc necks or make fun of elves. One little fact that I would like to point out is that he did beat Legolas in the orc killing contest at Helm's Deep. It was close but he won none the less. I do not like one race over another but I think that elves get the glory for the most part.

Gimli is the greatest! That's really all there is to it. In the books he's awesome, in the movies he's awesome. Yet with the coming of the movies he's been underplayed and seems like more of a sidekick then a dwarven warrior. But hey I love him all the same.
I keep telling my friends how I want Gimli as a doorguard in my house. So he can use his ax to cut down intruders. If only it were possible... That being said, Gimli, brave and loyal. And he needs a much bigger fan base in my opinion.

Yes, Gimli is pretty amazing. Personally think that he should have been a more prominent character in LotR. Might have been cool to see more things from his point of view.
Oh, and the axe is really cool Eowyn Skywalker. |
