So where are we and what have we got so far?
We seem to be agreeing that Bombadil doesn't count as a 'living thing'. Therefore Treebeard was the oldest at the time of the War of the Ring (according to Gandalf). Did the Ents count as 'living' when they had not yet been awakened by the Elves?
