Nahai was slightly taken aback. That was hardly the reply she had expected...but she didn't mind at all. A tint of red showed on the apples of her tanned cheeks.

"You...you did not offend me, sir" she said, "I merely...well.." her voice trailed off.

"It's hard, isn't it?" Enlothien said softly. "Losing them, I mean?"

Nahai nodded slowly.

"Very" she said. She was dying to know this mysterious stranger's story, but wasn't sure how to ask. It was probably a touchy subject, and, living her life alone, wasn't much of a conversation-starter. So she stared into her ale for a moment.

"Do you miss them?" she said suddenly. Enlothien looked up at her.

"Pardon?"

"The people you lost." She pushed a strand of red-gold hair behind her ear, unsure if she was approaching this correctly. It was a very stupid question, she thought to herself, but she couldn't think of a better response at the moment, half of her mind still being on his remark about her eyes. Solemnly, she waited for his reply.
