The part I was closest to was Faramir. See it and you'll know. More like gritted teeth, though.

You got it, Sharku, the only crying you'll do is over the fact that Frodo and Faramir are both "missing in Action".

I felt an overwhelming sense of... pride. When Gandalf returns, Theoden is restored, Helm's Deep, the last march of the Ents, etc. Mostly throughout all the parts that did not contain Frodo or Faramir.
Oh, I just remembered! When Treebeard is lamenting the trees cut down by those filthy Orcs and he gets all angry and does his "summoning" call. That was awesome!
[ December 18, 2002: Message edited by: TolkienGurl ]

You'll cry when you realize that the nobility of Faramir and Theoden is stripped.

I almost cried when all able men at Helms Deep were called to arms, and boys, practically boys, were in line to be armed and fight. Nasty.

I felt tears coming on at the flash-forward scene with Arwen grieving over Aragorn. I also suppose I will need a hankie when the realization that I am not likey to ever have David Wenham to myself will sink in; it is sad that the greatest redeeming feature of Faramir's portrayal are those lips and eyes.

Forget the handkerchief. I recommend taking along "The Two Towers" book and the FotR Extended DVD, and whenever you get the urge to cry about the bad parts of the movie, you can hug these two items and feel better.
And then whisper breathily to yourself, "There is still RotK".

Actually, I did find a tear rolling down my cheek after Theoden talks about how no father should have to bury a son. I came close after seeing those Rohan boys being suited up to be slaughtered in a seemingly hopeless battle.

i agree that the most upsetting thing is the travesty that has been done to farimir and to a lesser extent frodo. but there were a couple of other scenes that made my chest feel tight.
1. when arwen finally realizes she can't stay with aragorn. (and elrond finally has a moment of real emotion showing)
2. like many of you: when they show the boys who were practally children being armed to fight to the death
3. when haldir dies
