The romance element was ok. Not vital, not great, but ok. <BR>What *was* ridiculous to me was the spurious Elrond-banishes-Arwen-to-Valinor theme which was not only detrimental to the character of Elrond, but also completely changes the premise of Aragorn's relations with Eowyn. In the book, Aragorn's straight dealings with Eowyn showed his noble character almost better than anything else. In the film there is now a question-mark over what his intentions are, and that rather spoils movie Aragorn for me as a hero.
