Task fulfilled, reward: enhanced powers and wisdom -Aragorn shows prudence and skills as a leader (Pellenor), task fulfilled; reward: enthronization -Frodo resists the ring; reward: exile in realm of Bliss -Boromir: succumbed to the ring's seduction, task failed. Punishment: death (Faramir succeeded there) etc. Is this idle speculation, or could this be a main motif indeed? (Wow, this is already post #5,000 in the books! Excellent!
