Bingo! Well done, Thorongil.

The game is indeed FotR, although not the pure fighting-based one that seems to be the more popular. This one follows the book story more (it has Bombadil and the Barrow-Wight, for example) and you play (on different levels) Frodo, Aragron and Gandalf. Personally, I preferred it as there was more exploring and puzzle-solving involved, but that's probably just me.
