The part of Sil. where Fingolfin is smoten by Morgoth and his body is recovered by Thorondor. *sniff*

In LotR, I'm always touched (besides the parts in the very end of the book) by the scene where Frodo is sitting upon Amon Hen and finally realizes the importance of his mission (I know it's not the usual sobby stuff, but I'm still always touched by it):

&quot;But everywhere he looked he saw signs of war. The Misty Mountains were crawling like anthills: orcs were issuing out of a thousand holes. Under the boughs of Mirkwood there was deadly strife of Elves and Men and fell beasts. The land of the Beornings was aflame; a cloud was over Moria; smoke rose on the borders of Lórien.&quot;
