It had to do with her skin coloring....and the other Elves.

she was darker then the other elves so the reds and blues made her look lighter?

Was it something to do with the clothes they originally out in swamping her? So they simplified them so she wasn't so buried - therefore making her look more ethereal. I have just made this up so feel free to laugh.

 It had to do with Liv Tyler's skin and the clothing of the OTHER Elves.
