Oh no, in the books she was a real lady and knew her place was to inspire Aragorn, not fight beside him (that was Eowyn's role). PJ made her look for like Xena, and totally wrecked her character in the movies for most book fans. Besides that, he chose a rather untalented actress to play her. If I was the real Arwen, I know I'd be pretty ticked off.

Heh. Xena... my aunt was obsessed with that show. Anyway, i see your point. i too noticed this at the movie theatre... I kept thinking it was someone else ... The roles were too far apart.

I'm Xena the Arwen-Movie wanna-be ! I have returned for my role! ELELELELEEE!

Yes, my dry humour strikes again!
Hope you like EM...

Heh. Nice one, Ka.

Elven-Maiden-- I agree, it was quite out of character but I guess I can see why PJ decided to give her a more active role... having a love interest who's almost never mentioned wouldn't have flown so well for the general moviegoing public...

By the way, cute avatar!

Um, when exactly in the films did she fight alongside Aragorn or act in any way like Xena?

Actually, for that matter, when did Eowyn ever fight alongside Aragorn in either the book or the films?

Now let's get back on topic, shall we?

Okay, you caught me. But Arwen did take the reins (since there weren't any reins when you're riding bareback, but you get the point) when she rescued Frodo from the Wraiths and rode him to Rivendell. That whole chase scene reminded me very much of Xena.

Having said that, I can understand why PJ did it. Glorfindel isn't really as important to the movie as Aragorn's love interest, which is why she got his part. I just don't think his choice for expanding her role was appropriate.

And you're right, Eowyn didn't technically fight alongside Aragorn, but she did fight.

And thanks Enca!

Most likely to die tragically: Aragorn

Most likely to die amusingly: I agree, poor Pippin

Hah! I shall systematically plot each of your inevitable demises!

Most Likely to Die by Impalement on Carrot: Meriadoc Brandybuck

Most Likely to Die with a Lot of Stretch Marks: Rosie Cotton

Most Likely to Die and then Jump Up Again and Say "Just Kidding!": Gandalf

Most Likely to Die at the Hand/Bow/Knife of Legolas: around half the orcs in the movie

Most Likely to Die...and Keep Dying...and Keep Dying...: Boromir

Most Likely to Die and Have Enca and Elianna Mourn Nonstop: Grima

Ka mourns for the relentless Disco King!

*Sniff Sniff poor boromir! I hate it when he dies! That ring has an Inferiority Complex! Especially in the movie (which makes it even more dramatic... I was crying in the theatre! And that's a Confession!) Anyway, being the astrology sign of death(Scorpio), i think i will add to our little depressing post...

Most likely to die (a second time...) due to natural causes...: Eöl (Gravity? Remember? Or, did they know about that in Middle Earth?)

Most likely to die without a good supper: Sam... Stupid Smeagol!

Most likely to die as a childhood companion: Zamîn ( Having connections with the first independant queen isn't that bad?)

Most expected to die by first taking an oath with your six brothers, then flinging yourself into a firey fissure: Maedhros (You knew it! Jewels and oaths do not go well together!)

Most likely to broken by an evil temper tantrum: Ormal and llluin the lamps of the Valar... ( You really where too bright anyway...)

I hope this is a contribution to the thread... Even if most is from the early years of Arda...
