*gag* I never thought I'd do this...
There is some method to the madness of English teachers. They are trying to teach large numbers of people to communicate effectively and following a certain formula is a relatively simple means of doing this.
Now, to make me feel better about myself, here is my critical comment: Looking at some of the dreadful educational results, perhaps this does not work so well. But there are many other issues involved there.
