Yep - it was about the witch king - and Merry was described as valiant by Eowyn, the spirit was also a reference to the brandy in his surname!

I'll guess Sauron:
He was seen once in a pleasing shape as Annatar. Then he was not to be seen in physical shape, nor have his name spoken. And he was very persuasive and seemed very wise when he made the Elves trust him.

Wow, good guess but not at all what I had in mind (mostly because that never occurred to me). It is interesting though how our minds work in such truely different ways...on such truely different scales...
