I agree with the posters who mentioned the old hobbit sweeping the path outside his door. Although he is likely a composite of characters, he is priceless and makes me smile everytime I watch it.

He's in the cast list as Odo Proudfoot, and indeed 'tis him who delivers the immortal line "Proudfeet!".
